No matter what brand of potting soil I buy, there are these little black flies (knats) that fly out of it and take over the area where the pots are. I usually buy Shultz Moisture Plus but this time I got another brand because that was all the shop had.
Do aphids fly at some point in there life and are they black? Someone told me they are black and fly before they lay the eggs. Do they lay the eggs in the soil then crawl up the plant and turn green? How should I treat the soil before planting then? What is the best way to get rid of them, if the knats and aphids appear?
I have Scotch Bonnet (very hot flavourful) peppers that I grow and use over the winter. When summer comes the following year, I plant them in the garden and start new ones.
All your opinions and tips are appreciated so please post them here. I want to try them all. Please don't recommend that soap spray. It causes all the leaves of my plants to fall and they eventually die. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
